Security is a basic to empowering small business | shadowgroup.co.cc

Small business owners are risk takers. According to recent statistics from the U.S. Small Business Administration, approximately 552,600 new employer firms opened for business in 2009. Research shows that only a quarter of those will stay in business 15 years or more.

To increase the chances of longevity, new businesses need to minimize operating risks wherever they can. Security is an important part of that equation.

New businesses often have tight operating budgets and security and intrusion detection is not first and foremost on a business owner?s mind.

While some businesses such as jewelry stores may require security systems in order to obtain insurance, others may not have that requirement. So unfortunately security can get left out of some business owner?s budgets, leaving their small business vulnerable.

Robin Stennet, director of Small Business Marketing for ADT Security Services Inc., says she sees this happen all too often.

?Some businesses have a lot of security, some very little or none,? says Stennet. ?In thinking if it?s necessary, an owner may consider geography, the incidence of crime, and their type of business. So some business owners may not assume that a security system is a basic need,? she says. ?A restaurant would never be without a refrigerator or freezer but it may not have a security system. A security system should be a basic.?

Stennet says ADT works to educate small business owners about the need to consider security as part of their operating plan. ?We want to help them to act and not to react; not to wait for something bad to happen. We are working to help them be as proactive as possible.?

With advancements in technology, there are a number of security options from comprehensive to basic. When talking the first line of defense, an intrusion detection system is a basic that goes a long way in providing security that can directly affect a business? bottom line. Today?s systems are easy-to-use and may employ motion sensors, door and window contacts and audible or silent alarms to secure a business. And the systems are centrally controlled by a keypad.

In addition, having a security system can help reduce

Healing Relationships through Love in Action

A child?s obedience is afunction of the co-regulation between the parent and with the child. Co-regulation creates a secure base. A secure base influences obedience. A secure base creates positive neurologicalfeedback loops and positive conditioning. Lack of co-regulation between parents causes children to react out offear. So parents, if you?redys-regulated, then don?t expect your children to be obedient. When you are dys-regulated, God doesn?t getupset with you. He doesn?t put you intime out. He is there for you regardlessof your state of regulation. This is themodel you need to follow with your children. Unfortunately there has been a blurring of definitions and lack ofunderstanding of expectations. Punishment is used and is expected to get the results ofdiscipline. Isn?t it more sociablyacceptable to say that you?re ?disciplining? your child rather than punishinghim? I have found that most parentsbelieve punishment and discipline are synonymous. Also, parents don?t truly understand what anatural consequence means.

How to Stay Alive When Business Shrinks | Best Outsourcing Partners

You?ve used everything you had to keep going, but it may not be enough. Norm Brodsky weighs in on what to do next.

Norm Brodsky is a veteran entrepreneur.

Dear Norm,

I am the second-generation owner of a wholesale shade-tree nursery that has been in business for 30 years. When we were profitable, we were making more than $500,000 a year. But over the past three years, we have lost more than $300,000 a year, largely because of the downturn in the housing market. I?ve used my equity and retirement savings to keep going. As a result, 80 percent of my net worth is gone. Meanwhile, the bank is threatening to close my line of credit. My CPA thinks we will be OK if we can just hang in for two more years, but if I don?t secure new financing, we won?t make it. I love this work, but I am struggling to see the future. Do I keep going? The economy is improving, but maybe not fast enough. What would you suggest?

?Name withheld

Accountants are historians. They are good at telling you what a company has done in the past, but it?s always dangerous to take a CPA?s business advice going forward. I was concerned that this writer?let?s call him Jim?might make a disastrous mistake based on his CPA?s assurance that he just had to hang on for two years. The CPA, it seems to me, is assuming that the real estate market, and thus the market for trees, will bounce back by mid-2014. That is highly unlikely, in my view, and certainly not something to count on.

After talking to Jim, it wasn?t hard to diagnose his problem: His cash flow from operations is not enough to cover both his operating costs and the annual payments on his debt. Although the company?s sales have improved since bottoming out in 2008, they are still?at $790,000?barely 40 percent of what they were at the height of the housing boom and $400,000 below his breakeven point. Could sales increase enough in the next two years for the business to become profitable? Who knows? There are no large, untapped sources of revenue Jim can go after, and so his fate depends entirely on what happens in the housing market. Meanwhile, he can?t cut operating costs any more than he has. He would thus have to borrow more money to stay afloat while hoping for a miracle rebound in the market. Without one, he could be even worse off in two years than he is today.

I offered Jim an alternative scenario. ?What if this change in your business is permanent?? I said. ?What if you will never get back to the level of sales you had in the past? Maybe you should figure out how to stabilize the business at its current level.? For example, his nursery occupies about 400 acres. He has more land and more trees than he will need even if the housing market recovers completely. I suggested that he run a sale on trees to reduce his inventory and consider selling half his land. He could then use the proceeds of both sales?land and trees?to pay off his debt. His operating costs would be lower after downsizing, and his breakeven point would drop accordingly. ?If your goal is to stay in business because you love it,? I said, ?you?ll be better off cutting back now than floundering for two or three more years, hoping sales will improve. That will do more than eat at your equity. It will eat at your heart.? Jim thanked me and promised to let me know what happens.

Asian shares, euro hit by Spain bank woes, wary on

TOKYO (Reuters) - Asian shares slipped and the euro touched a 23-month low on Wednesday as fears mounted that Spain's banking woes will push its borrowing costs to unsustainable levels while signs emerged that China may take a cautious stance on economic stimulus.

European shares were likely to follow Asian stocks lower, with spreadbetters predicting major European markets would open down as much as 0.7 percent. U.S. stock futures were down 0.5 percent.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slipped 1.2 percent, led by the energy and materials sectors. The decline knocked the pan-Asian index back toward a five-month low hit last week.

Investors, unsettled by a steady stream of news underscoring the depth of the euro zone's debt crisis, have recently been pinning their hopes on measures that China, the world's second-largest economy, recently unveiled to boost domestic consumption and private investment.

In this vulnerable environment, media reports dampening expectations for a hefty Chinese stimulus programme hit sectors most sensitive to that country's economy, taking a toll on Hong Kong shares, which fell 2 percent. Shanghai shares eased 0.2 percent.

Japan's Nikkei average closed down 0.3 percent.

The euro fell as low as $1.24572 while the Australian dollar, typically seen as a gauge of risk appetite, declined 0.6 percent to the day's low around $0.9775 after weaker-than-expected Australian retail sales data.

The euro's plight continued to underpin the dollar index, measured against a basket of major currencies, which rose above 82.61 on Wednesday to its highest since September 2010 and dragged down dollar-sensitive commodities.

The Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index was down 0.8 percent at 279.74 late on Tuesday, after touching a 20-month low of 279.49.

CAUTIOUS CHINA

Indications that China may take a cautious approach to stimulating its economy as growth weakens also dampened sentiment in the markets.

Several market sources cited a Xinhua report released after markets closed on Tuesday that said China had no plans for stimulus measures this year on the scale of those seen in 2008 and 2009, although analysts warned against interpreting this to mean that China would act too timidly on its economy.

"I don't think we need to be so cynical. Beijing will definitely have to continue to make adjustments, but it won't change its top-line rhetoric," said Hong Hao, Bank of Communications International's chief equity strategist.

Societe Generale analyst Wei Yao added that infrastructure investment would be a key policy tool, while taking the view that there would be a rebound in growth in the second half.

"However, Chinese policymakers will not commit themselves to a predefined sizable investment stimulus plan like in late 2008," he said.

Major U.S. stock indexes and European shares had closed higher on Tuesday, partly on hopes over Greece's future.

Greece's pro-bailout conservatives are leading ahead of a national parliamentary election on June 17 that may determine whether the country remains in the euro zone, an opinion poll showed on Wednesday.

But Spain took centre stage with its plan to issue new bonds in the near future to fund ailing lenders and indebted regions, fuelling fears that the country's refinancing stresses could spin out of control and push borrowing costs above 7 percent, which is seen as unsustainable.

Sovereign debt yields exceeding that level have prompted other troubled euro zone economies to seek a global bailout.

The European Central Bank threw cold water on expectations that it would extend help to ease Spain's funding woes, saying it was not discussing restarting its bond purchases.

But views are emerging that the markets' reaction to risks in Europe has been overdone.

"Concerns in Spain and the negative news from the ECB are putting commodities under pressure, but they shouldn't. I think the markets are a bit ahead in currencies," said Jonathan Barratt, chief executive of BarrattBulletin, a Sydney-based commodity research firm.

"I actually feel there is more good news out there at the moment than negative news, and as a result of that, the dollar index, which is reaching a very important level, should come under pressure. It's time to consolidate, and I look for that."

Investors are also looking for fresh catalysts to provide direction at least for the near term as they await Greece's election and sort out the prospects of Chinese stimilus steps.

One possible catalyst is U.S. May jobs data due on Friday, which will help investors to gauge the strength of the U.S. economic recovery. Employers are expected to have added 150,000 new workers to their payrolls, according to a Reuters survey, after adding 115,000 in April, the fewest in six months.

China's official manufacturing data is also due on Friday.

A weaker euro suppressed gold, pushing it down 0.5 percent to $1,547.31 an ounce.

U.S. crude fell 0.6 percent at $90.20 a barrel, while Brent also fell 0.4 percent at $106.22 a barrel.

Asian credit markets weakened, with the spread on the iTraxx Asia ex-Japan investment-grade index widening by 2 basis points.

Menallen students, community embrace recycling programs

By Marilyn Forbes
Daily Courier

Published: Saturday, May 26, 2012, 3:25?p.m.
Updated 3 hours ago

The students at Menallen Elementary have learned many things throughout the school year, including the benefits of recycling.

The students take part in two recycling programs, within the school and at home.

The newer of the two programs is called Greenopolis, an initiative that helps to educate children on the benefits of recycling.

Volunteer Janet Gallagher visits the school twice every week to weigh donated recyclables, which include plastic, aluminum and tin.

Since it was introduced in January, the school has collected about 4,000 pounds of recyclable materials for the Greenopolis project.

"They are doing a great job," school media specialist/librarian and project coordinator Christa Sabatula said. "It just keeps getting bigger and bigger."

Sabatula said that the recycling was welcomed not only in the school, but in the community.

"We don't have recycling here in Menallen Township, so there were people who were happy about this," Sabatula said.

The school was recently informed that is it is now 36th in the nation for recycling with the Greenopolis program.

"I think that is pretty impressive," Gallagher said. "We are just this little school and we are up against big high schools. It's amazing what these students are doing."

The children are also taking part in another recycling program, called Terracycle which recycles previously nonrecyclable or hard-to-recycle items from juice box pouches to toothpaste tubes.

Working with items taken from the cafeteria, classrooms and brought from home, a group of students who help to oversee the programs spend time every day on the process of sorting and packaging the items to recycle.

"Our recycling team is doing a great job," Principal Paula Work said. "We have the seven students who do it daily and also a few parent volunteers who help."

Work added that many students are now bringing items into the school for the project.

"It's amazing to see the students getting off the buses and dragging a garbage bag behind them with recyclables," Work said. "These kids are working together for a common good."

Students are not only enjoying the recycling, but feel thrilled to be a part of a project that is geared toward the environment.

"Recycling is important to me because it saves the planet," student Sadie Huhn said.

"Recycling is a good thing and it is also helping us to raise money for the school," student Kali Ternitsky said.

The money raised from the recycling will go to the purchases of new playground equipment that will include handicapped-accessible items for the students.

In addition to the recycling money, the committee that is raising the funds for the playground equipment, led by Sabatula, have raised $16,000 to date through fundraising and grants.

"Our goal is $20,000, and we'll get there," Sabatula said.

For now, the students will concentrate on what they can reuse, recycle or collect for the programs.

"The children are learning what they can do for the planet," Work said. "They are learning how to keep the planet healthy."

And they are keeping hundreds of pounds of items from hitting the area landfills by spending time on their programs.

"Everyone's garbage is our treasure," Sabatula said. "and everyone here is learning to recycle. That is what we want to teach the kids. We want them to learn this and continue to do is."

Newnan native Natalie Pluskota, left, and teammate Kata Szekely advanced to today?s NCAA quarterfinals after earning a 7-6(3), 7-6(2) win on Friday.

By CHRIS GOLTERMANN

ATHENS ? Before she even stepped foot in a tennis court at the University of Tennessee, Natalie Pluskota set a BHAG for herself as a college tennis player.

Otherwise known as a big, hairy, audacious goal.

?Going into my freshman year, I remember telling my parents I wanted to be a four-time All-American,? she said.

Mission accomplished.

The Newnan native and former Northgate High?s impressive week at this year?s NCAA Tennis Championships continued on yet another busy day at the University of Georgia?s Dan Magill Tennis Center.

A day after picking up her third career All-American honor and first as a singles player, Pluskota became the first Lady Volunteer player in history to reach the NCAA Elite 8 in doubles for the third time in her career.

The three doubles honors, along with Thursday?s first ever, All-American nod among singles, make Pluskota just the fourth four-time recipient in Tennessee women?s history.

The Tennessee senior joined teammate Kata Szekely to pull out a 7-6(3), 7-6(2) victory over Virginia?s 18th-ranked tandem of Emily Fraser and Lindsey Hardenberger to advance to today?s national quarterfinals in Athens.

The effort followed Pluskota?s quarterfinal match in the NCAA singles tournament where she also took her opponent, third-ranked Stanford sophomore Nicole Gibbs to a pair of tiebreakers before falling 7-6(1), 7-6(6).

?I?m thrilled about it,? said Pluskota. ?This is the biggest tournament of the year and to get a chance to come back to my home state and play, it?s been exciting. We?re definitely going to celebrate, but I know we have to get ready for (Saturday).?

Pluskota and Szekely, ranked No. 10 nationally with a 17-1 record, now advance to today?s NCAA quarterfinal match at 2 p.m., against Southeastern Conference rivals Lauren Embree and Joanne Mather from the University of Florida.

Both tandems have posted upsets along the way. Pluskota and Szekely opened the tournament by bouncing North Carolina?s third-seeded Shinann Featherstone and Lauren McHale on Thursday. Embree and Mather, a Duluth native, outlasted Cal?s No. 5 seeded tandem of Annie Goranson and Annett Schutting on Friday in three sets after dropping the first.

The victory by the Lady Vols duo, their 10th straight, ended another long, yet successful outing for Pluskota, who found herself in four tiebreakers while playing double duty for the second consecutive day.

?It was a quick turnaround. But we went out there and executed our game plan,? she said. ?I felt a little tired (Friday). Part of that was the heat. The most important thing was going forward and getting a win in doubles.?

On Friday morning, she found herself battling third-seeded Stanford sophomore Nicole Gibbs trying to advance in the national quarterfinals among singles.

It ended in a 7-6, 7-6 loss that had Pluskota putting the pressure on in both sets, taking a 4-2 lead in the first and a 6-5 advantage in the second.

?It was a battle,? she said. ?I left it all out there.?

Regardless, Pluskota and Szekely now have a chance to reach Sunday?s Final Four, with the national championship scheduled for Memorial Day.

?We?re just have to go after it and leave it all out there,? Pluskota said.

Florida selected as top seed in baseball tourney

NEW YORK (AP) ? Florida heads into the NCAA tournament as college baseball's top team.

The Gators appreciate the honor, but they're interested only in finishing No. 1 at the College World Series.

"I think that we have a good team," coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "I think that we had a good year. I'd agree with everybody that I don't think we have played our best yet, which is encouraging."

Florida (42-18) was selected Monday as the top seed for the 64-team tournament and will host one of 16 four-team, double-elimination regionals that begin Friday.

"That was a very close vote," said Kyle Kallander, chairman of the Division I baseball committee. "The committee really discussed at length who deserved to be that No. 1 overall. There were several deserving teams."

The other national seeds, in order, are: UCLA, Florida State, Baylor, Oregon, North Carolina, LSU and two-time defending College World Series champion South Carolina.

"We had four teams that were in serious consideration for that last top national seed, that No. 8 seed," Kallander said. "It was very competitive in the evaluation process."

Kallander said the Gators' overall body of work ? including a 21-10 record against top 25 teams ? put them in front of the field.

History has not been kind to the No. 1 overall seeds, though. Only once has a top seed gone on to win the College World Series: Miami in 1999, the first year the NCAA went to its current tournament format.

"Obviously, this is a great time of the year for everybody," said O'Sullivan, whose team opens against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion Bethune-Cookman (34-25). "We're excited to be in it. We're excited to be home."

The Gamecocks (40-17) are trying to join the 1970-74 Southern California squads as the only teams to win three or more consecutive national titles. South Carolina opens against Manhattan (33-25), the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament champion.

Florida and South Carolina are among a tournament field-leading eight Southeastern Conference teams, including Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is second with seven teams: Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia.

The 16 regional winners move on to the best-of-three super regionals. Those eight winners advance to the College World Series, which begins June 15 in Omaha, Neb., at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Miami (36-21) is in the tournament for the 40th straight year, extending its own record, while Florida State is making its 35th consecutive appearance. Dayton (31-28) and Samford (39-21) are making their tournament debuts, while Valparaiso (35-23) will play in a regional for the first time since 1968.

"I don't think our guys will be intimidated at all," said Valparaiso coach Tracy Woodson, a former major leaguer. "We've already played some great teams on our schedule this year."

Among those not in this year are Texas (30-22), which last missed out in 1998, and Utah Valley (47-12), which led Division I in wins but had a low RPI. Kallander said both were among 12 schools considered for the last couple of spots.

Utah Valley plays in the Great West Conference, which doesn't receive an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines won 40 of their last 41 games, and 45 of their last 49.

"We've done everything we can to control our destiny," coach Eric Madsen said after Utah Valley won its third straight Great West tournament. "Forty out of 41, that's incredible."

Kallander, commissioner of the Big South Conference, said the lack of quality non-conference opponents was a key factor in the Wolverines being left out.

"They did very well against that schedule, so what you've got to do is go out in your non-conference schedule and schedule stronger, and of course, you have to have some success against that schedule," Kallander said. "They did have a couple of good wins, no doubt, and scheduled a few very good teams in the schedule, but it wasn't quite enough for the committee."

Two teams with losing records made the field of 64 ? Creighton (26-28) and Sacred Heart (25-30) ? by winning their conference tournaments.

Now that Comcast has started delivering its video on-demand to TiVo Premieres, the company has now revealed the second area where access will be turned on is Boston, starting Monday. The news was announced in a tweet from Head of Corporate Communications Steve Wymer, and as Gizmo Lovers notes, was likely held back as Comcast announced its own X1 platform would launch soon in Boston as well. We're now more than a year past the original announcement, hopefully this is jsut the start of the rollout as it picks up the pace, if the two companies work well together maybe Comcast could be on the list for that six-tuner Pace box at some point.

FBI forming ?Communications Assistance Center? to help spy on ...

Only weeks after requesting backdoor access to popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, the FBI is in the news again. Now the organization appears to be staffing the elite unit that will create the technologies to tap into Americans? communications on social networks.

CNet broke the story today, revealing?that the unit has now been created. According to the story, the new division will be called the Domestic Communications Assistance Center, and it has already been allocated $54 million in funding by a Senate committee. While the group won?t engage in spying itself, it will create technologies to help state and local police intercept, decrypt, and analyze communications data.

The legal issues here are not entirely clear. While the police and security forces of most nations have had the ability to wiretap telecoms for decades, that capability is less and less valuable as the bulk of ?communications moves towards social networks and voice-over-IP solutions like Skype. National and local law enforcement agencies want the ability to tap into new networks as well as old, and an amendment to CALEA, the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, is being proposed that would force social networks to give access to law enforcement for surveillance purposes.

What?s far more clear is that the FBI is making these moves as silently and secretly as possible. There is no national debate, very little governmental debate, and almost no public awareness of the capabilities being requested and created. The changes represent what could be very significant privacy intrusions, coming just days after we saw how internal government employees can misuse data that their privileged positions give them access to.

However, developers and hackers looking for jobs can potentially join the new agency, headquartered in Quantico, Va. According to the job posting, you?ll need to have ?experience in conducting and/or managing electronic surveillance operations? and ?skill in evaluating technical electronic surveillance solutions.? If you do, you could qualify for a salary as high as?$136,771.

In my post a few weeks ago, I referenced George Orwell. That was before the name of the new unit was revealed. Calling a spy center a ?domestic communications assistance? unit does actually line up quite well with Orwell?s famous phrases: ?war is peace,? ?freedom is slavery,? and ?ignorance is strength.?

Big Two take Miami Heat to next round of NBA playoffs

Dwayne Wade scored 41 points, LeBron James added 28 as the Miami Heat finished off the Indiana Pacers 105-93 in Game 6. Next: Boston or Philadelphia.

Just like that, the Miami Heat and a Big Three-Minus-One are headed back to the Eastern Conference finals.

Wade scored 41 points, James added 28 and the Heat finished off the once-frisky Indiana Pacers 105-93 in Game 6 Thursday night, advancing to face either Boston or Philadelphia in the next round.

The way Miami's dynamic duo is playing, it may not matter who's got next. "They're going to be tough to beat by anybody," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said.

RELATED: NBA Title Champs: Who's got the most?

This was a 4-2 triumph that came down to a trilogy, Wade and James responding with the most remarkable week of their high-powered partnership, just when it looked as though the Heat were down and might be out.

Over the course of three dazzling games, James scored 98 points, grabbed 34 rebounds and dished out 24 assists. Wade had 99 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists. Chris Bosh, sidelined by an abdominal injury, wasn't missed at all.

"In the regular season, we've had some good games," Wade said. "But I don't know if we've ever had three in a row like that in the playoffs, the way we played off each other."

Of course, nothing less than an NBA title will do in South Beach.

Two series down, two to go.

One week earlier, Miami was down 2-1 after getting thumped 94-75 in Indianapolis. The fired-up Pacers had another game on their home court and a chance to build a commanding lead.

Wade and James simply refused to let it happen.

"We understand that when Chris went out, we had to step up," D-Wade said. "The team looked to us to lead."

The banged-up Heat will get a chance to relax a couple of days before worrying about the next opponent, who will be determined in Game 7 at Boston on Saturday. The conference finals start Monday in Miami.

Bosh hopes to return at some point, but it might not matter.

Not the way Wade and James are playing.

"Chris Bosh is an awesome basketball player, but when he goes down, that just means more touches for LeBron and Wade," Vogel said. "That's not exactly an advantage."

The Heat rallied from an early 11-point deficit, riding the hot hand of Wade in the opening half. He scored 26 points by the break, tying Tim Hardaway's 16-year-old franchise record for most playoff points in the first two quarters. James hit consecutive baskets with just over a minute remaining to close it out.

David West led Indiana with 24 points and all five starters were in double figures. Balance, it turned out, was no match for Wade and James.

"Guys are disappointed but understand that it's not our time yet," West said.

In a game of spurts, the decisive one came in the closing minutes of the third quarter.

Significance of Florida Business Insurance | Honest Reviews Online

Choosing business insurance can become hassling especially if you do not know anything about it. It is something that you consider before you start-up your new business.

Choosing business insurance can become hassling especially if you do not know anything about it. It is something that you consider before you start-up your new business. But looking beyond the jargons of business insurance, you need to decide the coverage that you are looking for. If your business is going to be a small one, then you would definitely need Florida business insurance. A small business is susceptible to a lot of risks and it has to run smoothly in its first year of opening. Any damages during this period of transition can hurt the company badly and also cost it a lot of money.

In general terms, Florida business insurance has several types of insurance. These include liability insurance, worker?s comp insurance, errors and omissions/professional liabilities and umbrella insurance. So this kind of insurance becomes like a safety net for a business because they cover different liabilities in their fields. The most common type of insurance is liability and Florida workers compensation insurance. Other forms of insurance such as business auto insurance, errors are omissions/professional liability and umbrella insurance though used are not as popular as liability and worker?s comp insurance. Liability insurance is a bit cheaper as compared to the other mentioned insurance types.

Florida liability insurance is also the most common type of Florida business insurance. This form of insurance covers most of your business property which includes your computers and other office equipments. It also covers losses that include damage to a person and his property while in contact with your business. Shopping malls and grocery stores are a big example. People tend to get injured and fall over on wet flooring. The advantage of having liability insurance is seen here. If you have this form of insurance, you will be able to pay up the incurred cost of the victim recovery.

Worker?s comp insurance is another form of Florida business insurance. This insurance covers the injuries that employees incur when they work for you. In a similar example, if your store cashier is coincidently held at gun point, then chances are that he will be shot or injured. Worker?s comp insurance will help you pay for your employee?s recovery costs and at the same time a portion of their salary because they will be unemployed during this period of recovery. Depending on the state you set up you business, you will have to choose the worker?s compensation insurance accordingly.

Apart from the ones mentioned here, you can also check out some other insurance plans such as products liability insurance. This is the kind of coverage that you will require if you are selling products and goods in a store. Most of the liability insurance Florida policies are designed keeping the different types of businesses in mind. You can now select these policies from a whole range of different insurers. This is the kind of insurance that is recommended especially if you have a business to run and manage. It is even more important if you have just started with the business.

Top women on Wall Street: Equal-opportunity axing?

(Reuters) - The financial crisis and its aftermath have been brutal for Wall Street's richest and most powerful women. The latest casualty: Ina Drew, the head of JPMorgan Chase's chief investment office, who departed last week after the bank suffered mammoth trading losses.

An analysis by Reuters of the proxy statements from the five largest U.S. banks shows that of the 25 executives whose pay is disclosed - updated for some recent changes - only three, or 12 percent, are women. That's down from five, or 20 percent, at the end of 2007.

At the three biggest banks - JP Morgan Chase & Co , Bank of America Corp and Citigroup Inc - there is now only one woman in the upper echelons: JP Morgan Chase's asset management chief, Mary Callahan Erdoes. At the end of 2007 there were two.

Among the top 10 banks, the aggregate numbers are a little better, but the percentages are not. Five women, or 10 percent of the 50 executives identified, are in place, down from six, or 12 percent, in 2007. Only three managed to hang on through the crash and continue on in their jobs: Morgan Stanley's chief financial officer, Ruth Porat; Wells Fargo's senior executive vice president of community banking, Carrie Tolstedt; and U.S. Bancorp's vice chairman of payment services, Pamela Joseph.

Drew's departure followed JP Morgan Chase's disclosure of more than $2 billion in losses at the chief investment office. She was one of the best-paid executives at the bank, earning $30 million over the past two years.

Drew is hardly the first top woman executive to take a messy and public fall since the trough of the financial crisis in 2008.

For many, a pivotal moment came when the glamorous and flashy Erin Callan, who somehow made the wonkish job of chief financial officer both hip and stylish, became the first of the Lehman Brothers executives to go in June 2008.

Callan's departure occurred about three months before the firm came tumbling down, triggering the financial crisis.

Since then there have been a series of flameouts. Women who were once anointed as the most powerful in finance, the would-be heirs to the CEO suite, were fired or forced out.

Just three months after Callan's exit, Sallie Krawcheck - widely lauded as the top woman in banking - learned via BlackBerry during a Citigroup retreat at the plush Phoenician resort near Phoenix that she was being stripped of her duties as Citigroup's head of global wealth management. Her parting was so discordant it was dubbed a divorce by the press.

Krawcheck soon joined Bank of America in the same position. Two years later new Chief Executive Officer Brian Moynihan moved her out, even though her operation was profitable.

This, after Moynihan had overseen the departure of the bank's other top two female executives, mortgage head Barbara Desoer and global risk chief Amy Woods Brinkley.

"We still have a long way to go to change the culture," says Harvard Business School Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter. "But let's not look at any one woman and say they fired her because she was a woman, because they didn't."

J.P. Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo & Co , U.S. Bancorp , Capital One Bank and PNC Bank all said their corporate corridors and talent pipelines were filled with talented, high-ranking women who report directly to their CEOs. They also said that a gender breakdown of their top earners was not the best way to measure how much female talent they had.

"We have a significant number of women in top leadership positions, including nearly 40 percent of direct reports to the CEO, and others who run businesses that by themselves compare with Fortune 500 companies," said Bank of America spokesman Scott Silvestri.

Wall Street is a savage place. For women and men. But the departure of top executives has raised age-old questions for women who work there, and for those who observe them.

Before the financial meltdown there was a sense that hiring was becoming more equitable. It no longer feels that way.

Some experts, such as economist Sylvia Ann Hewlett, director of the Center for Talent Innovation as well as the Gender and Policy Program at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, argue that women who choose to have children either opt to take, or are forced to take, off-ramps in their jobs because their prime career-building years coincide with their prime child-rearing years.

Others subscribe to the "glass cliff" theory proffered by University of Exeter Professors Michelle Ryan and Alex Haslam: Companies push women up the ranks, then promote them too fast and too far. Failure is inevitable, and the perception that women can't do the job is thus fulfilled. A self-reinforcing, negative feedback loop ensues.

Yet women now earn 57 percent of bachelor's degrees and are 60 percent of graduate students.

The workforce also continues to change. Women now make up more than half the managerial class. Almost 40 percent of working wives now outearn their husbands, according to Liza Mundy, author of the recent book "The Richer Sex."

Mundy predicts that the Big Flip - the day when women will outearn men - will soon be upon us.

The recent rash of female departures on Wall Street may make it seem like progress is being erased.

Strangely, that's not the case.

"I actually think, in an ironic way, it's progress that women are judged on performance grounds," says Kanter. "We are going to see some women succeed beyond belief and some women who get caught in a crisis of their own making. But stay tuned. Ina Drew won't be the last person to lose their job from JPMorgan Chase."
