Include a chat feature on your site so that visitors can meet each other there. When beginning your web marketing adventure, think small and manageable when it comes to your website. Starting with a small number of indexed pages will help your search engine optimization.

Fill your website with a wide range of descriptive, evocative words. Adjectives and adverbs can be great tools to use in order to pique the interest of your audience. Use surprising combinations and even invent your own adjectives. Entice them with your writing and they could become repeat visitors to your site.

While internet marketing can be a lot like other types of marketing, in some areas, it?s radically different. As an example, the way search engines focus on title tags could be changed at any time. Knowing this, you might need to place more effort in marketing a video to viral audiences.

Putting ?guaranteed? in your marketing campaign is a guaranteed way to get results. A guarantee will let people know that they can trust in your company and your products. Everyone works for their money, so they want to be certain that what they are purchasing isn?t going to just be money down the drain.

Blogs are one of the best tools at your disposal for enhancing your internet promotion success. A blog is another venue where consumers can find more information about your product or services. Also, a blog makes your website larger, making it more visible to search engines and increasing the number of visitors to your site in the long run.

Shaw Communications Sees No Halt to Industry Consolidation - The ...

TORONTO ? Continuing vertical integration in the Canadian media sector is still on the cards, despite the CRTC rejecting BCE/Bell Canada?s $3.38 billion takeover bid for Astral Media.

That was the conclusion Thursday of Brad Shaw, CEO of Shaw Communications, the western Canadian cable giant, which could yet seek a merger with Corus Entertainment, a broadcaster in which the Calgary-based Shaw family has a controlling stake.

But not just yet, Brad Shaw told analysts after his company released its fourth quarter financial results.

?We realize there's some value and some synergies there (with Corus), but strategically, if the family feels it's right and have the right time to do it, we'll look at it,? he said.

Shaw added the CRTC ruling on the Astral Media deal was about BCE/Bell Canada, rather than reversing course on industry consolidation.

?It seemed to be somewhat more of a Bell-focused decision when you look at it, not so much against VI (vertical integration) in the industry,? he told analysts.

The Shaw family, which also controls Shaw Communications, in 1999 spun off its media assets to create Corus Entertainment.

The CRTC blocking BCE?s proposed deal for Astral Media appears to have put the breaks on industry consolidation that in recent years has seen phone and cable giants acquire indie broadcast content to drive down their pipes.

That trend included Shaw Communications two years ago acquiring the former Canwest Global Communications Corp.?s TV assets and rebranding them as Shaw Media.

Shaw Communications for the fourth quarter to Aug. 31 reported a profit of $133 million, down 20 percent from earnings of $167 million in 2011, on combined revenue up 2.5 per cent to $1.21 billion during the latest frame.

Rajaratnam friend agrees to settle SEC insider trading case

(Reuters) - A former chief financial officer at Xilinx Inc on Friday became the latest executive to settle civil charges of being part of now-imprisoned hedge fund tycoon Raj Rajaratnam's insider trading network.

The technology executive, Kris Chellam of Saratoga, California, was charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission of giving Rajaratnam confidential information on Xilinx in December 2006.

The tip helped the Galleon Group founder, who was Chellam's close friend, make nearly $1 million in illicit profits, the SEC said in its lawsuit.

Chellam has not been criminally charged. He agreed to pay $1.75 million to settle the case, the SEC said. The agreement is subject to approval by U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones in New York.

Chellam's lawyer, Christopher Steskal of Fenwick & West in San Francisco, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Xilinx, a maker of programmable chips, is not accused of wrongdoing.

Rajaratnam, 55, was convicted of criminal charges in May 2011. He is serving an 11-year prison term, one of the longest imposed for insider trading. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $92.8 million to the SEC.

In a broad crackdown on insider trading, the SEC and the U.S. Department of Justice have won scores of settlements, guilty pleas or trial convictions over the past four years.

Chellam was mentioned at Rajaratnam's trial as being part of a network of friends and business associates who tipped Rajaratnam and Galleon with corporate secrets.

The SEC had accused Chellam of tipping Rajaratnam with confidential details from internal company reports indicating that Xilinx would fall short of revenue projections. The tip enabled Rajaratnam to sell short Xilinx stock, making $978,684 after the negative information was announced on December 7, 2006.

At the time, Chellam had his own investment in Galleon funds and was a prospective employee at Galleon, the SEC said. It said Rajaratnam hired Chellam at Galleon in May 2007.

On Thursday, a federal appeals court in New York heard arguments in Rajaratnam's challenge of his conviction. Rajaratnam contends investigators improperly obtained permission from a judge in March 2008 to tap his cell phone. The court did not issue an immediate ruling.

The case is SEC v Kris Chellam in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, No. 12-7983.

GOES-13 video shows Hurricane Sandy move over Jamaica

NASA's Aqua satellite passed over Hurricane Sandy as it was moving over eastern Cuba early on Oct. 25. The AIRS instrument captured an infrared image of Sandy that showed a large area of very high, cold cloud tops indicating the power within the storm. Sandy is now headed toward the Bahamas and warnings and watches have already been posted for the mainland U.S.

The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured infrared imagery of Hurricane Sandy's eastern half on Oct. 25 at 0559 UTC (1:59 a.m. EDT) that showed some strong thunderstorms around the eye of Sandy. Those thunderstorms are reaching high into the troposphere where cloud top temperatures are as cold as -63 Fahrenheit (-52 Celsius). In previous studies, those areas where the temperatures were that cold indicated heavy rainfall.

By 11 a.m. EDT on Oct. 25, the eye was no longer apparent in satellite imagery or from aircraft observations. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center noted that Sandy "has become somewhat disrupted on the western side by southwesterly flow from an upper-level low to the west."

Current Watches and Warnings

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Ragged Islands in the southeastern Bahamas, the Central Bahamas, the Northwestern Bahamas. A Tropical Storm Warning is in the effect for the Florida east coast from Ocean Reef to Flagler Beach, Lake Okeechobee, and the remainder of the southeastern Bahamas.

In addition, a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Florida east coast from North of Flagler Beach to Fernandina Beach, Florida Upper Keys from Ocean Reef to Craig Key and Florida Bay.

Discontinued Watches and Warnings

As of 11 a.m. EDT several watches and warnings have been dropped as Sandy continues moving north. Cuba has discontinued the hurricane warning for the provinces of Camaguey, Las Tunas, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, and Guantanamo. The tropical storm warning for Haiti has also been discontinued although heavy rains and gusty winds are expected to continue there today, Oct. 25.

Where is Sandy Now?

According to the National Hurricane Center, at 11 a.m. EDT on Thursday, Oct. 25, Hurricane Sandy's maximum sustained winds were near 105 mph (165 kph) with higher gusts. Sandy is a category two hurricane on the saffir- Simpson hurricane wind scale. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center, while tropical-storm-force winds go up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center, making Sandy move than 280 miles in diameter. As a storm weakens, it tends to grow larger, so forecasters are closely watching Sandy.

Sandy is located near latitude 22.4 north and longitude 75.5 west. That's about 65 miles (110 km) south-southwest of Long Island, Bahamas and about 85 miles (135 km) south-southeast of Great Exuma Island. Sandy is moving toward the north near 16 mph (26 kph) and is expected to continue in that direction today, and turn north-northwest and slow down. The center of Sandy will move through the Central Bahamas later on Oct. 25 and through the northwestern Bahamas on Friday, Oct. 26. Sandy is expected to remain a hurricane as it moves through the Bahamas.

###

In Florida, local hurricane statements have been issued for Miami, Jacksonville, Melbourne and Key West. For more information about rainfall, winds and storm surge, visit the National Hurricane Center website at www.nhc.noaa.gov.

Dedication to the New-Age Grandparents at Step2 Blog

Grandparents are parents too and they help us raise kids. My in-laws had a grandparent play date and that?s when I realized grand parenting is not what it used to be! They take the kids everywhere and do things I never did with my grandparents. My grandparents had friends named ?Mr. Early? and ?Bud? and we slept over at Christmas. My kids go to pick pumpkins, go to the movies, and go to TJ Maxx to pick out toys. They also have grandparent play dates with their grandchildren. The grand parenting books that I have seen show white haired grandmothers with glasses. However, that is not what grandparents look like anymore and I love it. They are not old; they are seasoned at parenting and have tons of fun with their grandchildren.

I have heard several grandparents describe the love they have for their grandchildren. They don?t go as far as saying their love their grandchildren more than their kids but they express something they can?t quite put words to ? about how much they love their children?s children.? It?s a love they can?t imagine until they become grandparents.?? There?s no discipline, no stress of getting things done and in order ? just love and fun. Now that?s something to look forward to.

?

I have to share one more grand parenting story that touched my heart and I?ll remember until I become one. It?s the power of a name ? the power of being named after someone. My friend and colleague, Fred, recently became a grandparent, specifically in April. Fred had lost his wonderful wife and best friend, Kathy (?Kate?), five years ago to cancer. So she was not able to witness the birth of their first grandchild. Fred was ecstatic and blessed to be able to be at the hospital when his granddaughter was born. ?He was ushered into the room where his daughter-in-law and son had just welcomed their first born daughter. He was then introduced to ?Kate,? his granddaughter. Kate was named after her grandmother!

Grandparents love hearing all of the silly stories that parents love telling and they make those stories fun to share. Stories of first words, rolling over, jokes, first days of school little details are not lost on grandparents.

So, thank you grandparents, the new version of grandparents that have play-dates, still have pony-tails and ride bikes? the grandparents of 2012, the day of ?middle-age? grandparents.

(AP) ? When the recession cost Jerry Krone his longtime accounting job several year ago, he turned to his hobby ? making gourmet jam in his Fountainville kitchen. Now he's a fixture at Doylestown's weekly farmers market, selling his lilac jelly and rose petal jam for $4 and $8 a jar.

Ask him about the election, and he will tell you that neither President Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney truly understands what average families are going through. A registered Republican ? but "that doesn't really mean anything," he said ? the 58-year-old Krone voted for Obama in 2008, before his experience among the unemployed soured him.

Still, he is leaning toward voting for Obama again, but wants to see the president deliver a stellar performance in the remaining debates: "He can't be so wimpy. He has to stop being nice."

Across Bucks County over the weekend, people spilled into farmers markets and harvest festivals and fairs, celebrating a glorious fall day and talking about politics as well as pumpkins. More and more places in the United States are deep blue or red, but Bucks is not one of those; the county is politically eclectic, with some households divided into different political camps and plenty who say they are undecided. People were eager to discuss the aftermath of the debate and what to anticipate in the last month of the campaign.

And while jobs are a huge concern in this country north of Philadelphia, the recent unemployment numbers, which brought the jobless rate down to a level unseen since January 2009, did not impress.

"They only matter to the pundits and the politicians," said Cynthia Kopp, 56. She too lost her accounting job in the recession and so she works part-time as a supermarket cashier and comes to the farmers market each week with her soulful sidekick, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Aries, to sell $5 bags of her gourmet dog biscuits.

"If Aries could vote he would vote for Romney," Kopp said, laughing. "Because mommy needs a job and she thinks Romney is the only candidate that could help get her one."

Steeped in history ? this is where Gen. George Washington crossed the Delaware River in 1776 to march on Trenton and surprise Hessian mercenaries fighting for Britain, a turning point of the American Revolution ? Bucks County was once considered safely Republican. But Democratic voter registration now edges out Republicans, 185,605 to 175,196.

Neil Samuels, the executive director of the Bucks County Democratic Committee, describes this part of southeastern Pennsylvania as "a place where politics can be schizophrenic." He pointed to the borough of Doylestown. Eight years ago, he said, there were nine Republican borough members and a Republican mayor. Today, he said, there are nine Democratic borough members and a Democratic mayor.

The same shifting allegiances can be found in households around the county.

Take 41-year-old Michael Juhas of Ivyland and his wife Christine, who spent Saturday afternoon enjoying the Pumpkin festival at None Such Farm in Buckingham with two of their four children.

"Every four years everyone in Bucks County is reminded that we are the cradle of Democracy," joked Juhas, a facilities manager at Temple University. "And we proudly try to live up to it."

The couple ? she is Republican, he's a Democrat ? rarely talk politics at home. Juhas is scared of more cuts in subsidized student programs under Romney. Christine Juhas, 40, a hair stylist, said she was swept up by Obama's oratory and style when she voted for him in 2008, but she doesn't think he has delivered on his promise of change.

"He was such a great speaker," she said. "But we need action more than words."

Still undecided, she is leaning toward Mitt Romney after his debate performance.

Lindsay Nemec and her husband Eric, who were picking pumpkins with their 7-year-old son, Samuel, also steer clear of political talk at home.

Job security is their biggest concern, but they are divided over which candidate might be best. Nemec, of Abington, is a 35-year-old school counselor who works in Philadelphia and is worried about proposals to close or privatize dozens of schools.

"I don't want to be one of the millions of Americans who is unemployed," said Nemec, who will vote for Obama.

Her husband, who works in a Philadelphia car repair shop, said he doesn't trust politicians in general and is "firmly undecided" on his presidential pick.

He likes Romney because he seems like a "good family man" and, though he voted for Obama in 2008, he doesn't feel the president has accomplished enough. He also dislikes the health care reform, saying government shouldn't force people to buy insurance. But he believes the election is really about who can fix the economy and help the middle class. He plans to make a final decision after watching the rest of the debates.

The economy and its effect on the middle class was a constant refrain, even for those who are financially sound.

Packing up his saxophone after a morning session at the Doylestown market, Mike Siefried said the current situation reminded him of the "robber baron days of the 19th century," when a powerful elite controlled industry and politics.

A registered Democrat who used to be a Republican, the 66-year-old retired marketing executive from Doylestown will vote for Obama, because he is fearful of the Republican agenda.

He compared the economy to a house that needs fixing up.

"Republicans want to slap a coat of paint on it and make it look good," he said. "Democrats want to look at the foundation and see what it takes to make it last."

Fellow musician Rick Renz, who plays drums in their "Jazz with Friends" band, was far more skeptical about the ability of any one leader to enact real change, particularly given the congressional gridlock in Washington.

Renz, a 58-year old sales manager, said he had never felt so disheartened about his country. His two older children, ages 33 and 27, both with masters degrees, have had to move back home because they can't find jobs. And he has witnessed friends lose jobs or have their homes foreclosed on.

"I never thought I would see that in my lifetime," Renz said. "Everyone says the job numbers are good. But my two adult kids are sitting at home."

Renz says he will vote for Romney, mainly because of his disgust at how the last four years have gone.

Others said it was unfair to pin all the blame on Obama.

"I view the obstruction of Congress as treason, because it has brought the whole country down," said Ed Valenti, as he strolled down Newtown's main street, his snow white parrot, Puff Daddy, perched on his shoulder. While kids snapped photos and "Puffy" enchanted onlookers with coy calls of "hello," Valenti, a 53-year-old social worker, talked about his concerns for his clients, many with mental health and substance abuse problems. A former Republican, Valenti said he has been disillusioned by how far to the right the party has moved. And he is afraid of more cuts to social programs for the poor if Romney is elected.

Still, while Valenti will vote for Obama, he doesn't envision any real change for the country without more bipartisan efforts in Washington.

"The problems the country is facing are beyond one man," he said.

Florida opens criminal probe into voter registration firm

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Reuters) - Authorities in Florida opened a criminal probe on Wednesday into the activities of Strategic Allied Consulting, the firm hired by the Republican Party to register new voters in the crucial swing state ahead of next month's presidential election.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said there was enough evidence to warrant a full-blown investigation of Strategic Allied, a Virginia-based voter registration company doing work for the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Florida.

The Florida Division of Elections on Friday forwarded a complaint to the law enforcement agency after reports of suspicious voter registration forms linked to the company first surfaced in Palm Beach County.

Both the Republican National Committee and Republican Party of Florida cut ties with the company as soon as the allegations surfaced last week, and the number of Florida counties reporting suspicious registration forms connected to Strategic Allied Consulting has since grown to at least 10.

Most political analysts say Florida, the fourth most populous U.S. state and notorious for its close elections, including the 2000 cliff-hanger that put George W. Bush in the White House, is a must-win for Republican challenger Mitt Romney in November's presidential sweepstakes.

Of all the closely contested battleground states in the presidential election, Florida is the biggest prize with 29 of the 270 electoral college votes needed to win.

"After reviewing this complaint, FDLE has decided that a criminal investigation into these allegations is warranted," said Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger in an email. "This is now an active investigation."

The Florida Department of State also sent an e-mail to the state's 67 county supervisors of elections late on Tuesday instructing them to review all the voter registration forms filed by the Republican party.

"At some point, these registrations may become evidence used in court, so it is important for you to take steps to protect them from tampering," the email said.

The work required by the criminal probe may strain the resources of county election officials who are already receiving thousands of absentee ballots and must prepare for a deluge of voters on November 6.

STRATEGIC ALLIED DISPUTES CHARGES

Federal Election Commission reports from the state Republican Party show it paid Strategic Allied more than $1.3 million this summer for voter registration services.

The firm was also hired to do voter registration work for the party in four other key swing states - Nevada, Virginia, Colorado, and North Carolina - for a total of $2.9 million, according to the Republican National Committee.

In a statement late last week, Strategic Allied criticized "likely libelous comments" by the Florida Republican Party about its efforts in the state amid allegations of voter fraud.

The company was formed in June by Nathan Sproul, a conservative Arizona political consultant and a former executive director of the state's Republican Party.

Alarm over potential voter registration fraud in Florida in the run-up to the November 6 election was first raised by Palm Beach County Elections Supervisor Susan Bucher, who flagged 106 "questionable" applications turned in by Strategic Allied this month.

Bucher - whose county introduced hanging chads and butterfly ballots to the political lexicon during the 2000 presidential election debacle in Florida - said her staff had raised questions about suspiciously similar signatures and incorrect addresses and dates of birth on voter registration forms.

Submitting deliberately false voter registration information, or altering information on an application without consent, is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Suicide car bombers strike in heart of Aleppo, 48 dead

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Three suicide car bombs and a mortar barrage ripped through a government-controlled district of central Aleppo housing a military officers' club on Wednesday, killing 48 people according to activists.

The coordinated attacks hit just days after rebels launched an offensive against President Bashar al-Assad's forces in Syria's biggest city, leading to heavy fighting and a fire which gutted a large part of its medieval covered market.

The state news agency SANA said suicide bombers detonated two explosive-laden cars in the main square, Saadallah al-Jabiri, which is lined on its eastern flank by the military club, two hotels and a telecoms office.

The explosions reduced at least one building to a flattened wreck of twisted concrete and metal, and were followed by a volley of mortar bombs into the square and attempted suicide bombings by three rebels carrying explosives, it said.

Another bomb blew up a few hundred meters (yards) away on the edge of the Old City, where rebels have been battling Assad's forces.

State television showed three dead men disguised as soldiers in army fatigues who it said were shot by security forces before they could detonate explosive-packed belts they were wearing. One appeared to have a trigger device strapped to his wrist.

Another pro-Assad station, al-Ikhbariya TV, broadcast footage of four dead men, including one dust-covered body being pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building and loaded onto the back of a pickup truck.

The facades of many buildings overlooking the square were ripped off and a deep crater was gouged in the road. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 48 people were killed, mostly from the security forces, while SANA put the death toll at 31.

Wednesday's attacks in Aleppo followed last week's bombing of the military staff headquarters in Damascus, another strike by Assad's outgunned opponents against bulwarks of his power.

In July, rebels killed four of Assad's senior security officials including Assad's brother-in-law, the defense minister and a general in a Damascus bombing which coincided with a rebel offensive in the capital.

Government forces have since pushed rebel fighers back to the outskirts of Damascus. But they have lost control of swathes of northern Syria as well as several border crossings with Turkey and Iraq and failed to push the fighters out of Aleppo.

A pro-Assad Lebanese paper said on Tuesday that Assad was visiting the city to take a first-hand look at the fighting and had ordered 30,000 more troops into the battle.

Many rich merchants and minority groups in Aleppo, fearful of instability, remained neutral while protests spread through Syria. But rebels from rural Aleppo swept into the city in July and still control districts in the east and south.

REGIONAL CONFLICT

Opposition activists say 30,000 people have been killed across the country in the 18-month-old uprising, which has grown into a full-scale civil war with sectarian overtones and threatens to draw in regional Sunni Muslim and Shi'ite powers.

Sources in Lebanon said seven members of Lebanon's Shi'ite Muslim militant group Hezbollah, a close ally of the Syrian president, were killed inside Syria on Sunday in a rocket attack. Three were killed instantly while four others were wounded and died subsequently, they said.

The sources said the Hezbollah fighters were operating in the border area, monitoring the flow of weapons into Syria from Lebanon.

Hezbollah's website and television station said the group held funerals this week for two fighters killed while performing "jihadi duties", but gave no further details.

Hezbollah has given strong public political support to its ally in Damascus but has not confirmed a military presence on the ground in Syria - wary of inflaming sectarian tensions in Lebanon, where many Sunni Muslims support the anti-Assad rebels.

The mainly Sunni rebels are supported by Sunni powers including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and have attracted Islamist fighters from across the Middle East to their cause.

Assad, from the Alawite minority which is an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam, is backed by Iran and Russia.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Tuesday NATO and world powers should not seek ways to intervene in the war or set up buffer zones between rebels and government forces.

He also called for restraint between NATO-member Turkey and Syria, after tensions flared when a mortar round fired from inside Syria struck the territory of Turkey. Ankara has threatened to respond if the strike were repeated.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned that hostilities in Syria could engulf the region and accused some Syrians of trying to use the conflict to settle scores with Tehran.

Ahmadinejad said that a national dialogue and elections - rather than war - were the only way to solve the Syrian crisis.

Efforts to address the conflict at the United Nations have been blocked by a standoff in the Security Council between Western powers seeking a tough stance against Assad and Russia and China, which fear a U.N. resolution against Syria would be the first step towards military intervention.

An Egyptian attempt to bring together Egypt, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia to search for a regional solution to the crisis also appeared to be going nowhere after Saudi Arabia stayed away for a second time from a meeting of the four countries.
