Big names at London Fashion Week

Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Stella McCartney are among Britain?s top designers set to show their wares at London Fashion Week.

They are among the 58 catwalk shows showcasing clothes for next year?s spring and summer season during the five-day trade event.

British designer Jasper Conran will be among the first to the catwalk, while the top names on Saturday include Julien Macdonald and Henry Holland.

US designer Tom Ford returns with a show on Monday, while McCartney will display her collection for Adidas on Tuesday.

The event is expected to attract more than ?100 million in orders, according to the British Fashion Council (BFC), as buyers, journalists and bloggers gather from around the world.

A report by Ledbury Research in July found that 83% of British luxury brands were on course to boost their profits this year, while Burberry reported an 18% rise in first quarter sales.

BFC chairman Natalie Massenet has called on Londoners to ?please help make our streets the best catwalk showcase in the world?.

In an article for the Evening Standard, she wrote: ?The British fashion industry is worth ?21 billion to the UK economy and employs 819,000 people across the country. With your help, we would like to see these numbers rise for the good of our industry, our talented designers and our reputation worldwide.

?We would like you to join us in putting on the show. Be your most stylish self for the week and give London the boldest and brightest fashion face and loudest fashion voice possible.?

Other high-profile designers showing at the event include Burberry, Temperley London and Matthew Williamson.
